Algarve Orchestra stages concerts for families

AS A result of a joint initiative between the Algarve Orchestra and Faro Municipal Theatre, a series of special family concerts will be staged from Sunday, February 26, until June this year. The idea is to bring classical music to a wider audience, delivering it in a more accessible format. Concerts will be informal and the aim is for musicians to interact with the audience.

The music chosen for the first concert is Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, which will be followed by Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on March 26. The concert on May 28 is entitled Os Virtuosos (The Virtuosos) and is dedicated to Pagannini, Chopin and Rimsky-Korsakov. The final event in the series, on June 18, will feature the music of Mozart and is entitled O Sorriso de um Génio (Smile of a Genius).

Concerts are scheduled to begin at 12pm at Faro Municipal Theatre. Tickets cost five euros per person per show or 20 euros for five concerts. For more information and tickets, call 289 888 110 or visit www.teatromunicipaldefaro.pt or www.orquestradoalgarve.com
