Two MPs have called for the imported oranges currently on sale in the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic to be replaced with fruit from the Algarve.
PSD Algarve party members Mendes Bota and Antonieta Guerreiro, sensitive to the economic difficulties faced by the region, are keen to promote the products of the Algarve.
The MPs checked out the oranges used in the bars and restaurants of Parliament and concluded that they are “not as sweet as the Algarve orange”.
Mendes Bota said: “Algarve oranges are the tastiest in the world and is incomprehensible why there is no government plan to promote our citrus fruit.”
