Algarve Oncology Association hosts second MOV.On walk/run in Castro Marim

The Algarve Oncology Association (AOA) is preparing to host the second edition of ‘MOV.On’, a new event that encourages people to take part in a walk/run either in person or remotely.

This year’s edition is scheduled for 10am on February 20 and will begin at Castro Marim’s municipal sports pavilion.

The event is organised as part of the Oncology Movement for Life (MOV) project, which is part of the Operational Programme for Portugal/Spain Crossborder Cooperation (POCTEP), and aims to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle as a means of preventing cancer. Keeping active and following a balanced diet are described as pivotal to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Anyone can sign up for the event for free. Participants will receive a participation kit including a hat, a backpack and a water bottle. The kits can either be sent via CTT post or be collected from AOA’s headquarters in Faro (Largo das Mouras, no.16) from February 1.

Those taking part in the walk/run will also be able to sign up for a contest entitled ‘Galeria Solidária – Consegues retratar um estilo de vida saudável numa fotografia?’ (Solidarity Gallery – Can you portray a healthy lifestyle in a picture?). The idea is to enter a photo of the participant performing physical activity while wearing the event’s hat and showing a “characteristic element from Portugal or Spain”.

The photos should be uploaded to Instagram or Facebook and should tag AOA (@aoalgarve_oficial on Instagram or @AOAlgarve on Facebook) and include the following hashtag, #MOVON22; as well as at least one of the two following: #Juntoscontraocancro and/or #Juntoscontraelcancer.

AOA was launched 28 years ago by late surgeon José Santos Pereira to fight cancer in the region and provide support to cancer patients.
