Algarve octopus catchers complain of “bait shortage”

Armalgarve Povo, the association of Algarve’s octopus catchers, has complained about a serious shortage of bait which is keeping several boats from going out to sea.

In a statement, it says the amount of sardines and mackerel caught by fishermen – and which is used as bait to catch octopus – has been “insufficient” to meet their needs.

A solution has been demanded from the government.
