Algarve no longer priority for the French

FRENCH TOURISTS are not only seeking sun and sea from their holidays in Portugal, they are also coming to enjoy cultural pursuits, announced French Ambassador Patrick Grutrat at the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo do Algarve, earlier this week.

“French tourists are staying in Portugal for a week or 10 days and are not only looking to enjoy the beaches,” said the Ambassador, who added that the Algarve is no longer a priority destination for the French. They are travelling more and more to Lisbon, the Alentejo and the wine region of Vale do Douro. The latter is particularly popular due to the fact that France is also a wine country.

Other preferred destinations include resorts in the interior, which the French appreciate, due to their cultural attractions and countryside.
