The chamber music cycle returns to Faro between October 4 and 22, with concerts in Tavira and Loulé.
The «Algarve Music Series» is back for another month of chamber music. The programme includes concerts at the Teatro Lethes, Club Farense, Igreja do Carmo, Igreja de São Pedro, Colégio de Nossa Senhora da Alto and Ginásio Clube de Faro between October 4 and 22.
Organised by cellist Isabel Vaz and pianist Vasco Dantas, the «Algarve Music Series» is back for its 7th and biggest edition yet (11 concerts), with its usual energy and elevated artistic quality.
Starting on Tuesday, October 4 at 21:00 at the Igreja do Carmo, the «Routes» concert features the Cologne Guitar Quartet, featuring music by Bach, Vivaldi, traditional music and much more. Admission is free.
On October 5, at 19:00, at the Lethes Theater, «we can listen to one of the most promising pianists of our time», says the organisation. Congyu Wang, a Steinway artist, will take the stage to perform Chopin’s first piano concerto. The interpreter will be accompanied by a string quintet composed of Tim Brackman, Miguel Simões (violins), Floor Le Coultre (guitar), Mikhail Shumov (cello) and Bruno Carneiro (double bass).
October 6, at 19:00, marks the turn of Projeto Sefarad – Sephardic music, in arrangements for piano (Filipe Raposo) and choir (Coro ECCE), directed by Paulo Lourenço. Admission is free, but booking is required via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Then, on October 7, the concert at the Church of São Pedro at 21:00 consists of the mythical Goldberg Variations by Bach in an arrangement for string trio. The musicians will be Tim Brackman, Floor Le Coultre and Isabel Vaz. Admission is free.
Later, on October 13, pianist Vasco Dantas will perform at the Club Farense, under the motto «From Water to Wine», in a recital with a tasting of Douro wines. Tickets cost €10 (€8 for Club Farense members). Reservations can be made via email (email@example.com) or phone (289824219).
This recital will be repeated at the Quintinha da Música in Tavira, on October 16, at 16:00. Entrance costs €20 and includes snacks accompanied by a wine tasting.
Then, on October 14, also at the Club Farense, Francisco Rita presents the piano recital «Heróis do Mar, da Pintura à Música», with music composed by the interpreter. The concert will be commented by the musician. Tickets cost €8 (for the general public) and €5 for Club Farense members. Visual artist Isolino Vaz, whose centenary is celebrated this year (1922-2022), will be honoured on October 15, at 21:00, at the Ginásio Clube de Faro, in a cello and piano recital. The painter’s daughter, Isabel Vaz, will play the cello, and Vasco Dantas will play the piano. Tickets cost €8 for the public and €5 for members.
The last concert of October will be again at the Clube Farense, on the 21st, at 21:00, in a piano recital dedicated to the music of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, performed by German pianist and pedagogue Heribert Koch.
The last concert of this 7th edition will take place on November 21, at a time to be confirmed, at the Cineteatro Louletano. In honour of the writer José Saramago, the «Algarve Music Series» presents a performance not to be missed, featuring actress Catarina Wallenstein and a text by Pedro Braga Falcão, inspired by the work «As Intermitências da Morte». The music is by Franz Schubert – String Quintet in C major, performed by André Gaio Pereira, Tomás Soares, Diede Verpoest, Beatriz Raimundo and Isabel Vaz.
