The Algarve Jazz Orchestra will perform its first concert of the year at Lagoa’s municipal Carlos do Carmo auditorium on Saturday (February 19) at 7pm.
Portuguese harmonicist Gonçalo Sousa and Brazilian singer Luanda Cozetti will team up to celebrate what would be the 100th birthday of Toots Thielemans, one of the best-known harmonica players in the world.
“Toots had a long career, with many opportunities and collaborations. The golden years of Bossa Nova were taking place, and Toots, like many jazz musicians, made a point of leaving his own mark on Bossa Nova,” the orchestra says in a statement to the press.
Tickets cost €8 and can be purchased online at www.ticketline.sapo.pt or at Fnac, Worten and the ticket offices at the auditorium and Lagoa’s Balcão Único. A 20% discount is available for holders of Lagoa’s cultural passport, social card and the Rota do Petisco 2021 passport.
The string of concerts will continue on Saturday, February 26 with a live performance at Portimão’s Tempo theatre, where Luanda Cozetti will take the stage alongside Cuban percussionist Osvaldo Pegudo to celebrate the music of South America all the way to Caribe.
The concert will begin at 8.30pm, with tickets costing €5. They can be purchased online at www.bol.pt.
