THE ALGARVE has been elected best golf destination for 2006. The award was presented last week at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in Gran Canaria.
As well as being crowned with the title this year, the Algarve also won the award back in the year 2000. For local association Algarve Golfe, this prize will serve to reinforce the prestige of the Algarve as a golf destination.
The Algarve was elected as the best golf destination by 190 golf tour operators from 35 different countries. The criteria upon which the selection was made included client satisfaction, quality of golf courses and accommodation, value for money, professionalism of the clubs, support from the local tourist industry and availability of tee times.
Other destinations nominated for the award were Andalucia, Arizona, California, Costa Brava, Dubai, France, Valencia, the Lisbon coast and South Africa.
