Algarve hotels nominated for World Travel Awards

THE ALGARVE is in the running to pick up a number of World Travel Awards this year, with several hotels in the region receiving nominations across various categories.

Vila Joya, in Albufeira, is the only resort in Portugal to be nominated within a world category, competing for the distinction of World’s Leading Boutique Hotel, an award that is considered one of  the most prestigious prizes in the tourism industry.

At European level, the Algarve is being represented by Hotel Quinta do Lago, which is a candidate for Europe’s Leading Golf Resort and by the Sheraton Algarve Hotel Pine Cliffs Resort that is competing in the Europe’s Leading Resort category. Vila Joya is also a contender for Europe’s Leading Boutique Hotel.

The World Travel Awards also distinguish the best national hotels and resorts, and this year the Algarve is represented in five different categories: Portugal’s Leading Hotel (Hotel Quinta do Lago and Sheraton Algarve Pine Cliffs Resort); Portugal’s Leading Resort (Hotel Quinta do Lago, Sheraton Algarve Hotel Pine Cliffs Resort, Vila Vita Parc and Le Meridien Penina Golf & Resort); Portugal’s Leading Golf Resort (Hotel Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vila Vita Parc and Le Meridien Penina Golf & Resort); Portugal’s Leading Spa Resort (Quinta do Lago and Vila Vita Parc) and Portugal’s Leading Boutique Hotel (Vila Vita Parc).

The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 to honour the best in the world in each of the different sectors of the tourism industry.

The winners of the awards this year (the 13th edition of the event), which covers 791 categories and destinations, will be announced at the prize-giving ceremony being held on September 20 in the Caribbean.
