Algarve hotels continue to break decade-long records

The Algarve hotel sector is on a roll.

Data from hoteliers association (AHETA) shows that 73% of the region’s hotel rooms were booked last month – the highest percentage since 2000.

April also registered the highest percentage of bookings since the turn of the century.

The good news is mostly due to increases in the numbers of Irish (+15.5%), British (+12.9%) and French (+7.2%) holidaymakers.

Further data shows that Tavira (+15.1%), Monte Gordo/VRSA (+5.5%) and Vilamoura/Quarteira/Quinta do Lagos (+5.2%) were the area where bookings grew most.

Business volumes at hotels also increased 14% in May, with AHETA adding that bookings across the board are up 5.7% in the first five months of the year compared to 2016 – which was already a ‘record-breaking year’.
