Algarve hotels at 80% for June holidays

Around 17,000 passengers arriving daily at Faro Airport

Hotels in the Algarve are reporting bookings for June 10 to 16 at around 80%, with approximately 17,000 passengers disembarking daily at Faro Airport.

“There is clear recovery in demand from domestic and foreign tourists, which is more robust than was expected at the beginning of the year,” Algarve tourism chief João Fernandes told Lusa news agency.

The president of the Algarve tourism board (RTA) added that bookings from June to October are close to the record-breaking levels of 2019, thanks in part to a recovery of markets such as the UK and Ireland as well as “those who play golf”, which in recent years “showed a decline.”

There is also a significant increase in the arrival of groups of businesspeople who come to the Algarve for meetings and gatherings, said Fernandes, as well as tourists from French-speaking European countries such as France, Belgium and Switzerland.
