Algarve hotels welcome fewer Brits in November

Algarve hoteliers want tourism workers among vaccination priority groups

The Algarve hoteliers’ association (AHETA) wants hotel and restaurant workers to be included in Portugal’s vaccination priority groups, “similarly to other rival tourist destinations”.

Says the association, “the human factor plays a more important and decisive role in this economic sector (tourism) than others, particularly in the accommodation and restaurant services.”

AHETA believes that vaccinating tourism workers would help “improve confidence” among visitors, and so they should be considered a “priority”.

“Vaccinating tourism workers would be, in the current economic and sanitary context, an advantage” in the face of competition from rival destinations, the association adds.

AHETA also defends that vaccines should be distributed more “proportionately”, as it points out that vaccination numbers in the Algarve are lower than other Portuguese regions.
