Algarve hosts second «sea expo»

For the second year in a row, the Algarve will host a fair aimed at promoting one of the Algarve’s most important assets – its sea.

Entitled Mar Algarve Expo, the event will take place between October 1-3 at the Hotel and Tourism School in Faro, and hopes to promote the “economic and business potential of the Algarve region within the field of maritime economy”.

Institutions such as the Sines and Algarve Port Administration and Docapesca will attend the event, as well as the tourism associations of Faro, Portimão, Tavira and Loulé.

A number of diving companies have also confirmed their presence at the fair, and will even set up a specially-adapted pool at the Faro school so that visitors can get a real feel of the sea diving experience.

There will also be a number of debates and seminars this year, the first of which will be attended by the Secretary of State for the Sea, Manuel Pinto de Abreu, and will see him involved in talks over controversial topics such as the “destruction of sea resources and pollution”.

Also on the agenda are culinary shows, focusing on Algarvean sea products, and a number of competitions that can win fairgoers “sea-related prizes”. All events are free.

Mar Algarve Expo is an initiative brought to life and organised by Maralgarve, an association dedicated to the promotion of knowledge and the economy of the sea in the Algarve region, and event management company L PRO – Business International.
