Algarve hosts charity yoga

With breathtaking scenery and a calming natural environment, the Algarve is a perfect location to practice yoga and this month two different yoga events will be taking place in the region.

From today (Friday), yoga teacher Aliana Almao, who has travelled to the Algarve from Helsinki, will be running an intensive programme of yoga events for a week in Tavira.

Aliana Almao told the Algarve Resident: “This programme, which runs until May 10, is suitable for any level of experience and is an opportunity to immerse yourself fully or to simply touch upon an authentic yoga experience.”

Events will be taking place daily on the course with those wanting to take part being able to drop in to the sessions that interest them which include holistic treatments such as meditation and yoga philosophy.

Participation in a single class costs €10 and a single workshop costs €18.  For further information and a full timetable please email

Meanwhile, Luisa McKay is inviting participants to go along and take part in Saluting for Charity, an event organised by Lulushanti Yoga taking place on May 15 from 9.30am.

Those taking part are asked to perform 108 yoga sun salutations during the session held at the Dunas Douradas Beach Club with money raised through sponsorship being donated to three charities.

Organiser of the event Luisa McKay told the Algarve Resident: “We ask that people taking part raise a minimum of €50 per person as we want to raise as much money as possible. The money raised will be split between the Pirilampos children’s home in Albufeira, ACCA children’s charity fund and to Service in Satchidananda (SIS), a non profit international collection of charities.”
