Liga Portugal Betclic:
Portimonense 2-1 Chaves
Boavista 1-3 Farense
The region’s two top division clubs enjoyed a productive weekend ahead of the international break which left both Portimonense and Farense sitting comfortably amongst the upper echelons of the league table.
Last Saturday afternoon, Portimonense scored two goals during a dominant first half, Hélio Varela and Ronie Carrillo finding the back of the net, before a triple substitution sparked a Chaves revival following the interval with only some great goalkeeping from Vinicius restricting the visitors to a solitary reply towards the end of the match and thus the resulting victory.
Not to be outdone, Farense more than turned up at Boavista on Sunday afternoon, taking the lead against the run of play through Elves Baldé just before the half-hour mark.
Boavista thought they had secured at least a point when Bozenik equalised shortly before full time, but Farense had other ideas; Fabrício Isidoro and Rafael Barbosa striking with aplomb in the 92nd and 96th minutes to produce the somewhat flattering final score line.
The clubs will only return to league action in a fortnight’s time on December 2, but before then, Portimonense will be hoping to avenge their recent Braga thrashing when they meet the same side back in the Algarve for their Portuguese FA Cup fourth round tie on Saturday, November 25.
