LIGA PORTUGAL BETCLIC:
Vizela 0-0 Farense
Porto 1-0 Portimonense
All four goalkeepers featured in last weekend’s matches involving the two Algarve clubs contributed greatly to a meagre return in terms of goals scored with outstanding individual performances.
On Saturday afternoon, Farense’s Ricardo Velho and Vizela’s German-born Croatian Fabijan Buntic made no less than 11 great saves between them to ensure a share of the points.
On Sunday evening, it was Portimonense’s stand-in Brazilian keeper Vinicius’ turn to shine by keeping Porto at bay single-handedly following Evanilson’s early strike.
The Algarvians had lost on all 23 previous trips to the Douro but came very close to taking something home this time were it not for Portugal keeper Diogo Costa who somehow managed to stretch out a leg to keep out a point blank Hélio Varela shot.
This weekend, the Portuguese FA Cup third round sees Portimonense travel to now third tier Sporting Covilhã on Friday evening (October 20) whilst Farense have an away match against second division bottom side Vilaverdense on Sunday afternoon (October 22).
