Liga Portugal Betclic:
Portimonense 1-0 Estoril
Rio Ave 3-4 Farense
Both top division Algarve football clubs came away with important wins over lower-placed opposition last weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, Portimonense celebrated their first home win of the season by getting the better of a fast and furious first half, Rildo heading on a corner kick at the near post for Pedrão to nod in on the half-hour mark. A less eventful second period of play saw keeper Vinicius hold on to all three points with two important saves.
Portimonense next head north to face Braga on Saturday evening, coincidentally the same opponents they will welcome to their Municipal Stadium in three weeks’ time for the Portuguese FA Cup fourth round tie.
Farense also came out on top on Sunday to record their first away win following a ding-dong battle with Rio Ave. Mohamed Belloumi put the Algarveans ahead, an Artur Jorge own goal levelled the scores followed by headers either side from André Pereira and Bruno Duarte to tie the contest on the stroke of half time.
After the interval, Costinha put the hosts ahead again from the penalty spot only for Cláudio Falcão to level once more and Rui Costa to snatch victory already in injury time. Farense next take on Arouca on Monday evening.
