The March 20 Portuguese League Cup final in the Algarve will feature Benfica and Porto, the 4-1 and 1-0 semi-final winners over Sporting and Academica respectively.
Unfortunately the purpose-built Euro’2004 stadium will not feature should the joint Spanish-Portuguese 2018 World Cup bid succeed – the government is unable to provide funds required to make the necessary improvements leaving Benfica, Sporting and Porto as the only three stadia capable of staging any of the proposed 24 games of the competition on Portuguese soil.
