The sea-side-themed play “À Babuja” will be performed at eight outdoor locations between July 12 and August 2.
Silves is staging “À Babuja” across the municipality between July 12 and August 2. The fun sea-side-themed outdoor play, based on Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha, takes spectators on an adventure into the imagination of an “Algarvian” hero.
During the performance, buoys are transformed into armour, umbrellas into windmills and a van into a horse. The “local hero” dances in the dunes, parks a donkey at a restaurant and looks for his damsel.
Created for the whole family and featuring a strong musical component, the outdoor play explores a physical, onomatopoeic and clownish language, making it universally understandable thanks to its physical, musical and visual language.
The objective of this activity is to bring this art to the population of all parishes in the municipality and “promote theatre, guaranteeing it a place of honour in the municipality’s cultural offer”, says the Mayor of Silves, Rosa Palma, highlighting the importance of culture in the development of the municipality.
The play will be performed across the municipality between July 12 and August 2:
July 12 – 21:30 – Alcântarilha – Parque das Feiras, next to the Bandstand
July 18 – 21:30 – Pêra – Polisportivo de Pêra
July 19 – 22:00 – Armação de Pêra – Old Mini Golf area
July 23 – 21:30 – Silves – In front of the Municipal Swimming Pools
July 25 – 21:30 – Algoz – Sport Algoz and Benfica facilities
July 26 – 21:30 – São Bartolomeu de Messines – Largo da Igreja Matriz
July 28 – 21:30 – São Marcos da Serra – Largo da Igreja
August 2 – 21:30 – Tunes – Besides the Parish Council building
The initiative is supported by the Parish Councils and Parish Unions of the Municipality, as well as Sport Algoz and Benfica.

SYNOPSIS
On a sunny day, a man leaves his routine and, inspired by an adventure book, gives free rein to his imagination. This modern-day knight needs a co-pilot, a noble lady to serenade and enemies. A Dom Rodrigo and a Medronho wouldn’t go amiss either. Two actors and a musician embody this epic Algarvian tale, seasoned with the best the region has to offer. Being «à Babuja» means many things, and one of them is being next to – the right people.
