Algarve divers clean up coast

Divers from across the region took part in an international project to clean up the seas with members from Indigo Divers in Albufeira aiding 10 divers in a cleanup of the Pedra da Oura reef off the coast of the resort town.

A spokesman from Indigo Divers said: “This is our sixth year participating in the cleanup project and we collected 17 fish traps, 120 metres of rope and 1kg of fishing line from beneath the water.”

The team also removed rubbish from the surface of the water and over an area of around 200 square metres the volunteers were able to collect cans, bottles, cigarettes and general pieces of plastic which filled five 1,000 litre bags.
