Algarve Dance Open launches in October

Algarve Dance Open is a new dance competition being held on October 7 and 8 at the Centro de Congressos do Arade in Parchal (Lagoa), the venue of the Dance World Cup Final held in 2014.

This new Algarve event is designed to give national and international dance students, aged from four to 21, the chance to practise their performance skills “and shine”.

On Saturday evening, there will be a separate session for urban dancers in a Hip Hop Convention and a closing gala will take place on Sunday evening from 6.30pm.

An international jury from Ireland, Spain and England will be giving prizes and special awards for diverse courses. Ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, folklore, musical theatre and tap dancing are just some of the styles in exhibition by soloists and ensembles. “There are workshops and even an improvisation competition for those intrepid enough,” say organisers, Talented Proposal Associação.

Entries to the competition close on September 20. Entries are welcomed for all levels and experience and it is hoped that local schools will support the competition. Independent entries are also allowed. Further details are available at www.algarvedanceopen.com

Tickets, costing €3 a session, €12.50 for the weekend and €10 for the gala on Sunday evening, can be purchased at the door or in advance.
