The inaugural inter-Algarve preseason tournament designed to promote footballing excellence in the region did not quite come up with the final widely anticipated.
In the Portimão group, home side Portimonense dominated beating Second Division B team Silves 2-0 before despatching a young Algarve select 4-0. Olhanense were expected to perform in similar fashion in Albufeira but only drew with Louletano who went on to reach the final on goal difference. In Loulé’s own stadium, however, Portimonense proved vastly superior scoring four times without reply to make the new trophy theirs.
