Armação de Pêra || Are you in the mood to try some of the best food the Algarve has to offer? If so, you are in luck, as this is exactly what organisers of Pêra’s popular ‘Arraial do Petisco’, a festival of traditional Algarve food served as tapas, are promising visitors this weekend between August 1 and 3.
The event is now in its 16th year showcasing the region’s traditional cuisine.
Everything from ‘papas de milho’ (a Portuguese version of Italy’s cornmeal polenta), snails, ‘milhos com carne’ (corn and meat stew) to popular ‘pipis’ (giblets) can be enjoyed, as well as specials including ‘ensopado de borrego’ (lamb and potato stew with bread slices – served on Friday), ‘feijoada de chocos’ (cuttlefish stew – Saturday) and ‘cabidela de galinha’ (traditional chicken casserolle – Sunday).
There will many regional sweets for dessert lovers, including the famous D. Rodrigos (egg thread delicacies flavoured with cinnamon), egg balls and a variety of almond based delights. Add to this a line up of musical entertainment, and the event offers a real taste of the Algarve.
Tickets cost just €1.50 for adults (children under the age of 12 are allowed in free).
The festival is held at Pêra’s Centro Paroquial sports centre. Doors open at 8pm and close at 2am.
