The Algarve Municipalities Association (AMAL) has donated an additional €600,000 to the Algarve Biomedical Centre (ABC) for the purchase of 30 “invasive ventilators” and protective gear for the region’s public health services.
Explains AMAL, the ventilators had already been ordered but due to “price changes in the market”, caused by global demand for this life-saving equipment, an extra tranche of money was needed to “secure the order”.
The association adds that the money will also be used to purchase “more protective gear to respond to the needs of health centres, fire stations, charitable institutions and police forces”.
AMAL had already donated around €1.3 million to public health services to aid the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
A group of residents and business owners in Quinta do Lago have also raised around €360,000 for the Algarve Biomedical Centre.
The association urges all to stay home and continue following the recommendations from the regional health board (DGS).
