A COUPLE living in the Algarve were arrested by Almodôvar GNR recently, suspected of a series of car thefts. The pair were caught driving a stolen jeep, which was reported missing in Lagos by its British owner last October.
A source from the GNR told Correio da Manhã newspaper that a man, 34, who had been serving a probation order since 2001, and a woman, 37, had been stealing vehicles in the Algarve and had already been identified by the police.
The couple were found in possession of 40 doses of heroin, as well as 1,000 euros in cash, 1,000 US dollars and stolen credit cards. The authorities also suspect that the couple have been driving away from petrol stations without paying for the fuel. The couple have been placed in prison awaiting trial.
