Algarve bowls report

The final round of matches for this season’s Eurocooling league took place at Parque da Floresta on February 19.

The Alvor Diamonds beat the Panthers, taking both games by 26-13 and sweeping all six points on offer and winning the league title with 65 points.

The other game saw Tavira clash with ABC Braves who won 36-35 and four points to two.

After the Diamonds, three teams were all locked together on 50 points, Chieftains taking third on shot difference, followed by Aces and Braves.

Tavira were also close in attendance on 49 points. The formal presentation of the trophy will be made by the sponsors Eurocooling on Inter Club finals day at Alvor on Saturday, March 21.

The ABC Cats rested this week in the One to One car hire Saturday league on February 21, while Alvor Greens and Gladiators both won and moved ahead of the Cats in the table.

Greens were at home to the PDF Crusaders and won by 55-33. Gladiators were also at home and took five points off the Titans, who took two points while losing by 63-50.

PDF Sinners also won against the Harlequins by 53-45 and five points to two. Finally, the Tavira Tigers met the Wanderers who won by 50-41 and six points to two.

Greens move to the top of the table on 64 points, ahead of the Gladiators in second.  Cats drop to third on 59 points and Harlequins remain fourth on 55 Wanderers continue to rise, now with 54 points. Tigers have 48 and Titans have 46, whilst Crusaders are on 41, ahead of the Sinners on 27 points.

On other bowls fronts, the Inter Club Championships semi final stages are due to take place at Tavira on Saturday, March 7. The Cameron Cup double rink competition has also reached the semi final stages. Nomads will play Albufeira and Alvor will play Tavira at Tavira on Sunday, March 8. The final will take place on the same day.

Finally the second Australian pairs competition at Alvor is due to take place from Monday, March 30 to Saturday, April 4.
