As we move into month 2 of 2012, Algarve bowls players have become aware that the Inter Club Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours are at a critical stage.
All outstanding games must be completed in time for the semi-finals scheduled to take place at Tavira on March 1.
Meanwhile, another round of the Mid Week League took place, albeit that one game was lost due to bereavement.
The Prefects took advantage of the situation to beat the Poachers 44-26 and leap two places to the top with a better shot difference than the Diamonds who drew 34-34 with the Gamekeepers. The Centurions, who did not play, slip to third place, whilst the Aces remain rooted to the bottom. Points are currently Prefects and Diamonds 27, Centurions 23, Gamekeepers 15, Poachers 12 and Aces 2.
Moving on to the Winter League, leaders Albufeira Cats visited third place Harlequins, where they won a thrilling game 45-43, but shared the points 4-4.
This enabled the home team to move into second place above the Greens who did not play. Fourth place Tigers, at home to the Huntsmen, had a comfortable win 66-37, took all 8 points and also moved above the Greens easing them into fourth place.
Fifth place Foresters achieved a close victory over bottom of the table Rangers 55-51, but also had to be satisfied with a 4-4 split on the points. Sixth place Amigos hosted seventh place Gladiators and, whilst the score was a very tight 58-53, also took all eight points and moved above the Foresters.
All this means that Cats now have 59 points, Harlequins 56, Tigers 56, Greens 53, Amigos 44, Foresters 41, Gladiators 34, Huntsmen 21 and Rangers 20.
The top four are pulling away.
