FINALS DAY took place on Saturday, March 11 at Parque da Floresta. The singles was won by John Lasky from Alvor, who beat his club mate Stewart Banks by 21-5. In the pairs, David Berbridge and Roy Bland beat Arthur Bell and Mick Bulmer from PDF by 19-10.
A word here for Colin Prosser from PDF, who was unable to play in the pairs final due to ill health – we wish him a speedy recovery and thanks to Arthur Bell for stepping in at almost the last moment.
The triples Cup went to Jim Miller, Cliff Tanner and Rene Berbridge from CPO, who beat Jo Matos, John Hewitson and Kate Hewitson from Tavira by 21 shots to nine. Finally in the fours, Sue Jones, Jimmy Jones, Paula Montgomery and Seamus Montgomery from Alvor beat Richard Hepburn, Jan McGlyn, Chris Williams and Maggie Williams from Vale do Lobo. Many congratulations to all our winners and to the losing finalists in reaching this stage of the championships. It was nice to see representation from each of the league clubs on finals day.
With PDF Crusaders winning the league in style and PDF carrying off the Cameron Cup, the list of winners for the 2005/6 season is now complete. The league continues to thrive and develop, and the new format with eight teams was a success. We continue to attract more entries into the various Championships that we are currently running. With 2005/6 over, thoughts will turn to the 2006/7 season when we all look forward to even bigger and better things.
