ALGARVE CONTINUES to be one of the most prestigious locations in world golf, being shortlisted, for the sixth consecutive year, for the title “Established Golf Destination of the Year”.
The winner is to be announced in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, on December 8 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) who represent 190 golf tour operators in 35 different countries.
The shortlist includes, in addition to the Algarve, Andaluzia, Arizona, California, Costa Brava, Dubai, France, Valencia, Lisbon and South Africa. IAGTO will judge each location according to the following criteria: client satisfaction, golf course quality and standard of accommodation, value for money, professionalism of course staff, quality of local tourism support facilities and availability of tee times.
Already this year, the Algarve’s San Lorenzo golf course (pictured) has been proclaimed the best in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the best 50 in the world by Golf Digest magazine. The Algarve presently possesses 30 golf courses, accounts for 50 per cent of the golf courses in Portugal and currently serves around 300,000 regular golfers.
