Algarve autodrome hosts World's Longest Race

It’s this weekend that the International Autodrome of the Algarve (AIA) will be making motorsport history, hosting the first edition of the world’s longest race – the Maxi Endurance 32h.
Over 20 teams with 40-plus drivers from Portugal and elsewhere have signed up for the newly-extended competition which begins on Friday (December 12) at 9am and runs until Sunday evening (December 14).
Until now, the Maxi Endurance involved only 24 hours behind the wheel. New rules have allowed the time to be extended.
The Spanish company behind it say it chose the Algarve as its venue this year thanks to the “highest praise” that the track has received from top-class drivers and promoters.
And to add to the fun, there will be a Drift Racing Show involving drivers purposely oversteering while maintaining total control around tight corners and obstacles. Definitely one for all the family!
Tickets to both events cost only €5.
