Algarve association In Loco is one of the four finalists for the ‘NGO of the Year’ prize, to be awarded in the first week of October by the European Civic Forum.
In Loco is in fact the only Portuguese organisation to be nominated in the category for a European Democratic Citizenship award.
In a statement, the São Brás de Alportel-based association said the distinction comes as a result of its promotion of “democracy, freedom, equality, pluralism, solidarity, and respect for minorities and human dignity”.
It also stressed how it has encouraged municipalities to carry out “participatory budgets”, which give citizens an opportunity to put up and vote for their own projects.
Whether In Loco will win the award is to be decided via online voting (50%) and by an international jury (50%).
