Monthly lectures organised by the Algarve Archaeological Association’s (AAA) are due to start again, following a summer break, on October 6 with guest speaker Carolyn Perry.
The Director of the MBI Al Jaber Foundation in the UK will be focusing her lecture on Islamic art, how it relates to beliefs and considering influences from earlier cultures.
The lecture will take place at the Museu do Trajo in São Brás de Alportel at 2.30pm before being repeated at 6.30pm at São José convent in Lagoa.
During the summer, the AAA gave some money towards sponsoring local Portuguese archaeologist Dr Tiago Fraga, who trained nine students in underwater archaeological studies off the coast of Lagoa. The work revealed mysteries about the fate of the Stream Star, a 1912 gun ship.
Annual membership to the AAA costs 30 euros. Non-members are welcome to the lectures for a fee of five euros.
