The Algarve and the Azores are among the best places in the world to visit in 2017 according to Finnish travel magazine Mondo.
Portugal’s southernmost region is at the top of the list, with the publication praising the Algarve’s “rugged cliffs, magnificent beaches and small villages” and considering it ideal for hikers and surfers.
Highlights include the world-famous Praia da Marinha in Carvoeiro, as well as the small towns of Tavira and Sagres, Mondo says.
Further down on the list is the Azores, considered the top choice for nature tourism lovers.
As the magazine explains, sightseeing tours to crater lakes, thermal baths and dolphin spotting boat trips are only some of the activities available on the archipelago.
It adds that while tourism is “limited,” air links to the Azores have improved in recent years.
Mondo’s list of recommendations also includes Canada, Dubai and the United Emirates, Naples (Italy), the Caribbean islands, Cyprus, the Estonian countryside, Wales, Lapland (Finland), New York (USA), the South African coast, Singapore, the Archipelago Trail (Finland) and Montenegro.
