AT THIS time of year, you cannot move in the Algarve without seeing advertisements for festivals, music evenings or concerts. However, it is sad to say that, until now, there has been no agency to represent local musicians.
The Triple Bass Music agency, headed by Matt Lester, a saxophonist and musician for 19 years, and Russell Fanaken, marketing director, provides musicians throughout the Algarve with a base from which to work. The agency takes the strain off musicians’ shoulders by co-ordinating their shows, providing them with new contacts and finding venues for their performances.
Triple Bass Music, with many of the Algarve’s top performers already on their books, endeavour not only to provide restaurants, hotels and resorts with home grown talent, but are also on the look out for new and exciting acts.
The agency will be bringing the João Falcato Latin jazz group to Tenda Marrakech, the new live music venue at Café Inglês in Silves, on August 18. This will be the first in a series of four concerts, entitled Summer Jazz Fest, which Matt and Russell hope will lead to a festival in the future.
Pianist João, together with Matt Lester on saxophone, Magida Mendez on vocals, Adriano Alves on bass and Brazilian drummer Ricardo Stuani make up the group, who will be performing their infectious polytonal sounds and multi-Latin jazz rhythms.
