Alcoutim’s youth hostel is now set to run through the year.
The rural borough’s council announced this week it has signed a €25,000 agreement with Movijovem – the entity that runs Portugal’s youth hostels – to keep the hostel open all year long.
Mayor Osvaldo Gonçalves described the decision as “fundamental” for the town, which is trying to establish itself as a more attractive tourist destination.
The agreement will also give the council a ‘pack of reservations’ at other youth hostels of choice throughout Portugal, which can be used for “excursions or trips” which it organises.
