ALCOUTIM’S MUNICIPAL Civil Protection Services staged a special safety awareness day for pupils of the borough’s nurseries and primary schools, as part of the commemorations for World Day of Civil Protection (March 1).
The event took place on Fluvial do Pego Fundo beach in Alcoutim, and involved Alcoutim Câmara, the voluntary Bombeiros, traffic police and the local Centro de Saúde (health centre).
The initiative, in which nearly 300 children participated, aimed to lay the foundations for a culture of greater security by building awareness for the prevention of road accidents and forest fires. Self-protection measures to be adopted in periods of extreme heat or cold were also discussed.
During the day, the children also had the chance to see first-hand the equipment used by the Bombeiros and traffic police.
