Albufeira’s four-legged ‘residents’ go for a walk

A ‘Cãominhada’ event is taking place in Albufeira on Saturday, January 13 at 10am.

These events, described as convivial dog walks which allow participants to bring along their own dog or instead walk one of the dogs that belong to the organising animal association, have gained huge popularity in the Algarve in recent years.

They aim to “promote a healthy lifestyle while also raising awareness about abandoned animals”, says Pata Ativa, the animal association that hosts the dog walks in Albufeira.

“We also want to contribute to a cleaner, more conscious and aware community, regarding environmental and urban waste issues,” it adds.

Anyone can take part by simply showing up at 10am at Vale das Pedras, near the secondary school.

The route varies between four and five kilometres, and each person is responsible for their own animal. Dogs must be on leashes and wear collars. Dog waste bags are provided by organisers.

The association also welcomes donations.
