Albufeira youth tournament hailed a great success

Thirty-six teams of young footballers and their families and friends have hailed the first EUROCOPA Youth Tournament in Albufeira a resounding success with plans already in place to repeat the event next year.

The winning teams in the youngest (Under 9) age group was Guia FC whilst Imortal DC from Albufeira collected the trophy in the oldest (Under 14) age group. There were some eagerly contested performances among the 90 games played over the three days.

Other winning teams included SL Benfica, SC Portimonense and Carniny Amateurs from Ireland. Stakeford Juniors (pictured) from north-east England collected two runners-up trophies and best goalkeeping award.

Carlos Silva e Sousa, Mayor of Albufeira, presented the trophies at the colourful closing ceremony. Organisers of the event, Algarve Football Tours, thanked FC Ferreiras and Imortal DC football clubs and the Albufeira municipality for helping to make this a memorable occasion.
