Albufeira truck driver killed in A2 motorway accident

A 59-year-old man from Albufeira died this morning (February 5) after his truck crashed and caught fire on the A2 motorway near Gomes Aires, Almodôvar, Beja, at around 6.15am.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, the truck had already been consumed by the flames, a GNR police source told the press. Traffic was cut off for hours and rerouted onto the IC19.

It is reported that the man, said to be Portuguese, was transporting scrap materials from the headquarters of the company he worked for in Cacém to Tunes.

The causes of the accident are being investigated.
