Albufeira council has signed a contract to build a municipal crematorium, the first in the Algarve, near the Vale de Pedras cemetery.
The work will be in the hands of Cremal, which will spend around €600,000 to build the crematorium and manage it for at least 30 years.
As councillor Rogério Neto explains, the cemetery is “almost completely full” and many have been calling for the construction of a crematorium, as the nearest one is around 150 kilometres away in Beja.
