Albufeira show presents 1,000 of Portugal’s best wines

Albufeira’s popular ‘Portuguese Wine Show’ is returning for its eighth edition this weekend (May 6-9).

Organised by Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira, the event promises “1,000 of the best wines, from the Algarve to Trás-os-Montes, in the north of Portugal”.

Hoping to beat last year’s numbers, organisers expect around 12,000 visitors at EMA – Albufeira’s Espaço Multiusos hall.

The event will also feature Mediterranean Diet-inspired cooking demonstrations and wine tastings with commentary, while experts will be showing how wine bottles can be opened “with fire and sabres”.

For the more traditional, there will also be a selection of cheeses, sausages and regional sweets to taste and buy.

Finally, the Bacchus Wine Competition 2016 will be attributing medals to the best wines, while a forum focusing on the “present and future” of the Algarve’s wine sector will be held on May 9 at 10pm at the town hall.
