THIS YEAR marks the centenary of Rotary International. As Rotarians all over the world are preparing to celebrate, Albufeira Câmara has given the go ahead to the erection of a monument dedicated to the organisation.
Rotary International is a private, voluntary organisation dedicated to community service and the promotion of world peace and understanding. With members in 165 different countries, it is the only non governmental entity represented at the United Nations.
The Rotary Club of Albufeira, established over 30 years ago, is one of the oldest clubs in the Algarve and, over the period of its existence, has devised, promoted and implemented many community support and educational initiatives, including the provision of student bursaries and prizes for the most outstanding students of the county.
The monument, the design of which is yet to be revealed, will be erected on the roundabout adjacent to the Albufeira health centre.
