Albufeira is the council with the most “gold” beaches for their “excellent” water quality. The distinction is awarded every year by environmental association Quercus to beaches with a water quality that meets high standards. Albufeira registered 19, while the Algarve scooped 88 out of a national total of 355.
Compared to 2013, Portugal has 19 ‘new’ gold beaches this year.
