Albufeira hosts mega Capoeira get-together

Albufeira will be hosting a mega Capoeira social event this month (Friday and Saturday, April 21-22).

Entitled ‘Encontro Muzenza Algarve’, it will be “one of the biggest of its kind in Europe”.

Around 1,500 Capoeira athletes from Portugal as well as Spain, Brazil, England, Poland, Germany, Italy and France are expected to take part.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art, named Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2014, combining fight moves, acrobatics, music and dance.

The event will involve various workshops and exhibitions at Albufeira’s multiuse pavilion (EMA) on Friday (21st) and at the town’s sports pavilion on Saturday (22nd).

There will also be a number of Capoeira demonstrations taking place on local streets.

Activities begin at 3pm.

Admission is free, though donations are encouraged to help Albufeira’s Humanitarian Solidarity Association (AHSA).

The event is organised by the Algarve’s Muzenza Capoeira group.
