A gravedigger who has already served an eight-year jail sentence for theft ran into trouble with the law again on Monday (October 19) when he was arrested shortly after a funeral at Albufeira cemetery.
According to Correio da Manhã, the 48-year-old man is suspected of stealing from a house in Forte de São João.
He was reportedly seen running out of the house by a couple of foreign tourists.
A source from Albufeira council confirmed the arrest, but described the man as an “exemplary worker” who “never missed work”.
The gravedigger has been heard by Albufeira court and released, although he has to report twice a week at the local police station while the investigation is underway.
