Bars in Albufeira are due to start closing at 3am following years of noise-related complaints from residents.
The proposal, which also involves changing opening hours from 9am to 10am, has already been approved by the local council and is up for public consultation until the end of the month.
Hopes are that this measure will at least help “minimise the issues related to noise,” Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo told Correio da Manhã.
Albufeira is the Algarve’s main nightlife destination, with rows of bars lining its Oura district and downtown streets. However, the amount of noise that they generate – particularly in the busy summer season – leaves many local residents at their wit’s end.
CM adds that the only establishments that are allowed to stay open ‘all night long’ (until 7am) are nightclubs.
