Albufeira Arts and Crafts Centre hosts new workshops

The Carlos Silva e Sousa Centre is offering traditional marzipan, tile and wood painting, crochet, embroidery and Cyanotype workshops this July.

The Carlos Silva e Sousa Arts and Crafts Centre in Albufeira is opening its doors in July for six creative workshops to promote handicrafts and regional art. The weekly classes include Doce Fino (marzipan), Azulejo Painting, Wood Painting, Introduction to Crochet, Introduction to Embroidery and Cyanotype.

On July 1, from 15:00 to 18:00, Augusta Aragão teaches participants how to make almond pastries filled with egg sweet in the Doce Fino Workshop. Participation costs €55 (material included). Those interested must register via email: [email protected].

Marzipan - Doce Fino

On Friday, July 7, Graça Martins returns to the Albufeira Arts and Crafts Centre for the Tile Painting Workshop. The activity, which highlights one of the oldest artistic productions in the country (Azulejo tiles have been produced in Portugal for over 500 years), runs from 14:30 to 17:30 and costs €30 (material included). Registration is mandatory and must be done by email: [email protected].

On July 11, the centre will host a Wood Painting Workshop. Maria José Ribeiro teaches participants how to paint a wooden box with techniques that imitate denim or leather. The activity runs from 10:00 to 13:00 and costs €40 (material included). Participants must register via email: [email protected].

On July 19, from 14:00 to 17:30, Adriana Mariquito teaches crochet basics in the Crochet Initiation Workshop. “This practical workshop allows participants to develop simple projects”, guarantees the teacher. The workshop costs €35 (material included). Those interested must register via email: [email protected].

At the end of the month, there is an Introduction to Embroidery Workshop. On July 22, from 10:00 to 13:00, Flávia Ferreira teaches different points and techniques to create unique designs. This workshop costs €35 (material included). To register, send an email to: [email protected].

The last workshop of the month at the Centro de Artes e Ofícios is the Cyanotype Workshop. On July 27, from 14:00 to 18:00, Sandra Nascimento teaches this alternative photographic technique, which produces Prussian blue colour prints thanks to a chemical reaction. The workshop teaches participants how to prepare the chemical solution and its application on paper and exposure techniques using negative or transparent objects, plants or other materials. In parallel, the Centro de Artes e Ofícios Carlos Silva e Sousa hosts, every Wednesday, between 14:30 and 16:30, the ECOS project (Ecological Workshop for Social Cooperation) weaver. The ECOS project, promoted by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira, develops and provides innovative activities in personal and social training, employability, promotion, and integration in the community.
