Carpe Nox, Albufeira’s New Year’s programme, was announced this week
Albufeira has announced plans to organise the best New Year’s festivities in Portugal.
Representing a €800,000 investment, the festivities are expected to attract a crowd of over 300,000 people.
“Expectations are high, but if we were to regress, we would be doing a disservice to tourism,” said Albufeira Mayor, José Carlos Rolo, on Thursday morning (October 26) during the presentation of the municipality’s New Year’s Eve programme, entitled ‘Carpe Nox’.
Musical guests Richie Campbell (December 30) and The Gift (December 31) will take the stage at Albufeira’s beachside square Praia dos Pescadores, as well as DJ Rita Mendes. The programme also features an aquatic pyromusical show, an aerial choreography and a laser show.
There are also new additions to the New Year’s programme: the first edition of the town’s Street Food festival on Avenida 25 de Abril and firework shows taking place in all parishes.
The Paderne Medieval fair will also be making its return, taking the town back in time to the Middle Ages, while a new event titled “Pop Art Parade,” starting at 12:30am on January 1 on Avenida Sá Carneiro, will celebrate a “significant phase in world culture.”
The New Year’s festivities were presented during an event held at the Noble Hall of the Town Council, attended by representatives from local businesses, associations, and public entities, including the President of the Algarve Tourism board, André Gomes.
APAL (Albufeira Promotion Agency), an entity that brings together over 200 Albufeira members involved in hospitality, catering, and local accommodation, is organising the event along with the local council.
“Expectations are high, and they have been increasing, as we cannot stop this event. It is an investment made by everyone, and everyone should contribute to it,” said José Carlos Rolo.
