Alberto João Jardim hands over leadership

Madeira’s long serving PSD president Alberto João Jardim officially presented his resignation on Monday, January 12, after nearly 37 years in power.

He had been the leader of PSD Madeira since 1978 and has been succeeded by Miguel Albuquerque, who was sworn in on Sunday at the 15th regional congress of the PSD in Funchal.

Not one to sit back and watch the world go by, Alberto João Jardim has now confirmed that he wants to run in the next presidential elections – “not to win, but to present his ideas to the country”.
