Canadian rock superstar Alanis Morissette will be topping the bill at Algarve University’s 20th Academic Week that takes place from May 5-14 at the Penha football ground in Faro. The first day of the event will be dedicated to traditional student’s musical groups but, a full programme of big-name national and international acts follow. The Temple, Easy Way and Moonspell on May 6, followed by Bombos do Paúl and Daniela Mercury (7), Toranja and UHF (8), Micaela and Ruth Marlene (9), Jamaniacs and Reamonn (10), Beltane and Alanis Morissette (11), Lullabye, Iris and Xutos & Pontapés (12), Reacções Verbais and Da Weasel (13) and Wok and Blasted Mechanism (14).
“It is a party for everyone with the most varied of tastes and from the most varied social strata” said the President of Algarve University’s Academic Association, Leonel Morgandinho at a recent ceremony to announce the line-up. One of the concerns of the event’s organisers this year is the excessive consumption of alcohol. To that end a special centre will be set up within the Penha ground where people can test their alcohol levels before driving, whilst the Red Cross will be on hand to warn against the dangers of alcohol and drugs.
